Admissions

This section covers Admissions to Central Park Primary School (Reception to Year 6) and Primary to Secondary Transitions.

Fair Access
The law requires that each local authority must have a Fair Access Protocol (FAP), agreed with the majority of schools in its area to ensure that for In Year admissions unplaced children, especially the most vulnerable, are offered a place at a suitable school as quickly as possible. In agreeing a protocol, the local authority must ensure that no school - including those with available places - is asked to take a disproportionate number of children who have been excluded from other schools, or who have challenging behaviour. Central Park Primary has signed up to the LB Newham’s Fair Access Protocol.

Children can be placed on the waiting list for the nursery after the age of 2 years. We will then let you know by letter when we have a place for your child—usually around the time they are 3½ years old. At that point, you will be given a date when you can meet the Early Years Leaders and register your child, and another date for your child to start in the nursery. Children join our reception class in September as we currently have a single point of entry. We arrange meetings for parents in the term before their child goes into a reception class.

Reception Admission for September 2022 entry

A summary of the key steps you need to take to apply for a place in Reception for children born from 1 September 2019 to 31 August 2020.

The national closing date for on time reception applications is 15th January 2024. All reception 2024 applications must be made through the family’s home local authority.

For children living in Newham families must apply via London Borough of Newham. For children living outside Newham, whose family wants them to attend this school their application must be made through their home borough naming this school as a preference on their application.

Remember, parents/carers must apply for a reception place in this school, even if the child has a brother or sister attending this school.

Before submitting a reception application we strongly recommend all families read the autumn 2023 edition of the local authorities ‘We are going to secondary school  guide and find out information about the school you are interested in.

In Year admissions into primary school (aka mid term and mid phase)

If a family arrives in Newham during the school year and their child needs a school place they must complete an In Year form naming their preferred schools.

School places are usually offered within 10 days.

The place offered may not be at the school the family prefers as that school may not have a suitable place available.

School Finder

We recommend you use the Newham School Finder tool to determine the location of your preferred Newham schools and calculate home to school distances.

Secondary Transition

There are a variety of successful schools in Newham for parents to consider when deciding upon secondary schools for your child.

Newham have produced a guidance pack for parents explaining the Year 7 admissions process which also includes information about the schools as well as open days when you can visit them: Secondary School Prospectus
