Arriving at school

The pedestrian gates into the playground are open between 8.30 and 8.55 in the morning and between 3.15 and 3.30 in the afternoon (2.30 on Friday). If you come to the school outside these times, you will need to use the main entrance on Loxford Avenue.

When the children arrive they need to line up in the playground, teachers will collect the class at 8.45 ready for lessons to start at 8.50. You should make sure that your child arrives on time for the beginning of each session. You should also make sure that you are on time to collect your child at the end of each session. If you are delayed, please phone us—children can become very upset if their parents are late.

Attendance, Absence and Punctuality

Your child is expected to attend school every day unless they are ill or have a medical appointment. If your child is absent from school, please let us know the reason by either phoning the school, writing a note or telling your child’s teacher. If you do not let us know, you may be visited by our Education Welfare Officer. We may also ask her to visit you if you give unsatisfactory reasons for absence, if your child is absent a great deal, or if your child is persistently late.

Holidays during the school term

You will be required to obtain permission from the headteacher if you want to take your child out of school during term time.

You can only do this if you make an application to the headteacher in advance and there are exceptional circumstances for the holiday. The headteacher will make the decision in how many days your child can be away from school if leave is granted.

You can be fined for taking your child on holiday during term time without the school's permission.

School Meals

All pupils in Newham are currently entitled to a Free School Meal. However, if you are entitled to Free Schools Meals due to the family receiving benefits then we still need to know. A menu cycle is produced and made available to parents. There is also a copy on display in the corridor next to the office.

We think that children just starting school in reception should go home to lunch for the first two weeks, until they have settled and become used to a whole day at school. However, if this is difficult for you, please see your child’s class teacher. After this, children may continue to go home to lunch, order a school meal or bring a packed lunch.

School Meals: School meals provide a variety of choice to cater for different needs, including vegetarian. A weekly menu is put on the school notice board. If your child needs a special diet, please let us know.

Packed Lunch: If you provide your child with a packed lunch, please do not include sweets or drinks in glass bottles. All drinks should be in either plastic or cardboard containers (no fizzy drinks).

Home Lunch: Children should be collected promptly at 12:00 pm (Reception, KS1 and Year 3 and 4) or 12.30 pm (Years 5 and 6) and returned to school no earlier than 12:50 pm (Reception, KS1 and Year 3 and 4) or 1.20 pm (Years 5 and 6).

Medicines

Parents can come into office to complete a form as we are allowed to administer medicine as long as the medicine has been prescribed by the GP with their name on. We make exceptions in the case of asthma and some minor illnesses – please ask office staff if you are not sure. However, parents should note that school staff are not allowed to give medicines to children, unless the child has a recognised and long-term medical need, although they will supervise a child self-administering medicine. All medicines should be sent to the school office, except for asthma medication, which is kept available to the child in their own classroom. It is the parent’s responsibility to make sure that medicine is labelled with the child’s name, the correct dosage and expiry date. Please make sure you let us know if medicine must be taken with your child on a school trip.

Uniforms

We believe uniform and appearance are important. Wearing the correct uniform shows children are proud to belong to Central Park and ensures high standards in their own attitude. Ian Howard (on Barking Road, East Ham) stock our school uniform, personalised with our school logo.

Pupils need to wear school uniform every day. This includes:

- Long/short navy blue trousers, navy blue skirt or pinafore dress,

- White blouse/polo shirt, navy blue cardigan/sweatshirt,

- Black socks/ tights and all black shoes/trainers/boots.

Appropriate colours of uniform are available from most supermarkets; we do not insist on the logo for our school uniform.
